Live by Night focuses on the youngest son of the Coughlin family's corrupt police captain, Joe, and his rise from petty crimes in Jazz-time Boston to rum running off the Gulf Coast during the Prohibition era. It's another collaboration with WB, so I'm sure they're getting their awards campaign going as I write this. It's the second book in the historical crime saga featuring the Coughlin family, set during Prohibition. The main character Joe Coughlin, a self proclaimed outlaw brings a refined sense of thugernomics to Tampa's Latin Quarter. Don't be surprised if you spot Ben Affleck driving around Massachusetts this summer. I love prohibition era gangster stories – LIVE BY NIGHT is perhaps one of the best there is.
